if i have sinus & allergy problems, is an antihistamine like benadryl enough for treatment?

my husband keeps insisting that benadryl for allergies will work the same for my sinus congestion. i can't breath at nite and the benadryl barely stops the sneezing. i am miserable.

Non drowsy Benadryl works well. You can also try Claritin-D, and since sleeping at night with congestion is an issue, you might try a nasal spray to open the nasal passages... please consult with a physician before over medicating yourself with over-the-counter remedies.

Benadryl is ok if used occasionally, however if this is a chronic issue, you need a prescription antihistamine. Reason being is that Benadryl has side effects especially when used long term (memory issues, sedation). Your primary care doctor can see you and prescribe the right one for you.
