Does any one know about steven-johnsons syndrome.......?

Issue
I was given a sulfa medication and it listed this as a rare side affect. Then i started getting a rash and i stopped it...then i did research and found that it can get was as the days go on, and that it is like a second degree burn. I found that alot of reactions to alot of meds are actually causing this reaction in many people, and that alot of doctors are completely unaware of it. I'm just a little worried.

Best Tip
Docs are not unaware of it. It is hard to catch, many other diseases act the same in some ways. It is caused by adverse allergic drug reactions. The Public needs to be aware of adverse reactions, so that a quick diagnosis may be made and the offending drug stopped as soon as possible. Allergic drug reactions are the fourth leading cause of death in the United States

Stevens Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis:

* Adverse drug reactions.
* Painful Blistering of the skin and mucous membrane involvment.
* In many cases preceded with flu like symptoms and high fever.
* As it evolves the skin literally sloughs off.
* Ocular involvement includes severe conjunctivis, iritis, palpebral edema, conjunctival and corneal blisters and erosions, and corneal perforation.

Almost any DRUG can cause SJS/TEN, including over the counter drugs. SJS & TEN do not discriminate against anyone! Everyone should be aware of allergic drug reactions.

Awareness and fast intervention is very important. Often IVIG is given intravaneously. But fast treatment is most important. Source(s): Pediatric Nurse for 20 years

Others
Sulfa is a med that many people have an allergy to, so I would see your dr and have him put you on something else.
Go to the following link. It has some info about it. Hope this helps!
