*Health Issues>>>Alternative Medicine issues>>>A question about headaches...? |
Issue I have been having headaches for the past two days. It seems to be centralized between my eyes. It is not throbbing, but constant pain. I am not sure if it is related to allergies or if it is migraine relate. Pollen levels in my area have been high this week, so I'm thinking it is most like allergy related. That said, I seem to have at least some light sensitivity in relation to these headaches, so they may also be migraine related. Or, it could be a combination of both factors. I would like to know any alternative medicine treatments that I can do for relief. I would like advice on specific, incident related treatment, not long term prevention. Also, I can not go to a doctor about the pain right now because I have no insurance. What ever you advice, it needs to be cheap, if possible. I've been treating it with Benadryl and Advil, but neither one has helped too much. Other information: I am a smoker (~1 pack a day). I don't drink alcohol or caffeine very often. Thanks. Best Tip If you're a female, it could be related to your time of month. You may not have had it before, but it can start sometime in middle age and then come around monthly. If this is the cause, it goes away after it's over. Other than this, it's hard to tell from a non-medical person's point of view. Try Feverfew herb. Supposed to be good for headaches. It comes as dried leaves (drink as an infusion) or in powder form (in capsules). It should not be used during pregnancy. Other herbs for headaches are Wood Betony, St John's Wort, Vervain, Skullcap and Lavender. Source(s): "The Herbal Handbook" by David Hoffman. And personal experience. Others This is where my headaches are when I'm having sinus problems. Try taking Antihistamine. Like DayQuil, it helps. Drink a lot of water too. Dear Saff, The Benedryl does help, bet be careful not to dry yourself out too much. It sounds like allergies. I think you and I both need to stop smoking, but you know just how hard that is. Good Luck! Saff If it is a migraine and it sounds like it is because of light sensitivity (I suffer from them). It may be a mild migraine. The only thing that I find that works is a dark room and quiet. It can take days to go away. A migraine can be brought on by many things. I have pain medication for mine but even that does not really work and I do not take it unless it is extremely bad because I am afraid of addiction. Sleep helps too IMO. Hope you feel better. Have you considered sinusitis? Try some saline nasal spray for a few days to see if that makes a difference. The smoking will not help, no matter what it turns out to be. However, migraines usually follow a specific pattern. This almost sounds like "pressure" between your eyes, caused by bad sinuses. Often a warm, moist cloth over the eyes is soothing, if it is your sinuses too. So maybe you could trouble shoot a couple things first. Blowing green or yellow, is infection and you 'll need an antibiotic. Wishing you well. |
