Issue after chemo and radiation to the neck will my taste ever return to normal? Best Tip My radiation for breast cancer extended to my lymph nodes at the base of my neck, and before that I had chemo too. It took several months for things to taste right to me, and there are still things that I used to like but don't now. Others I have been told the taste buds improve in time. I'm still waiting. The side effects you notice is definitely because of chemotherapy and radiation therapy you had, but you Can not say it is because you had the treatment in your neck are and you are having the taste difference. This and the following side effects are mostly common to most of the cancer treatments and they will go away in course of time. If it is very acute and intolerable consult your Oncologist and he will prescribe some medicine. Side effects of Chemotherapy Hair loss Nausea and vomiting Diarrhea or constipation Anemia Depression of the immune system hence (potentially lethal) infections and sepsis Hemorrhage Secondary neoplasms Cardiotoxicity Hepatotoxicity Nephrotoxicity Ototoxicity Side effects of Radiation therapy Damage to epithelial surfaces (skin, oral, pharyngeal and bowel mucosa, urothelium) Swelling (edema) Infertility Generalized fatigue Fibrosis Hair loss Dryness Best of luck for speedy recovery. Medical reference books and personal experience I've never had radiation but I had high dose chemo and a stem cell transplant. I completely lost my ability to taste for about a month and then everything was really gross for awhile after that. But now everything's fine again (transplant was May 31) As the body starts to bounce back from treatment little things like that start to improve slowly. |
