*Health Issues>>>Cancer issues>>>At what age would you tell your 3 children that you had? |
Issue Hodgkins disease? I had hodkins disease 9 1/2 yrs ago.Hodgkins disease is cancer. My childrens ages are 8,5,1 1/2. Best Tip Very very interesting as I have often wondered when I will tell my girls about my breast cancer. My oldest was 18 months old, and I was pregnant with my youngest when I was diagnosed. They are now 4 and 2 1/2. They know about my "owies" but that is about it. I do not hide my scars, and there are many bald pictures of myself around, and each time they look at them they know it's me. What I know is that when they start to ask questions, I hope I am as honest as I can be with them, if for no other reason than to make them aware of their own health. Good luck to you. Source(s): www.britehope.blogspot That is my blog and I write a lot about my cancer there if you are interested. Others Are you in remission, or in grave danger? It should depend on that I would think. Whenever it feels right to you. I wouldn't think a 5 or 1.5 year old would understand well enough. Not really sure about an 8 year old, depends on the kid. If you are cured, I don't see any need to rush and Hodgkins is not something your children are likely to get so its not like they need warned. So tell them whenever you feel comfortable and when you think they could understand. I'm thinking I would wait till signs of it were starting to affect the quality of my life, AND theirs. Tell them only when they are old enough to understand the disease. At the ages you described, I would worry that they wouldn't understand well enough to comprehend that you are no longer sick and by telling them now you might be adding stress & the fear of loosing you to their lives. Hodgkin disease is completely curable. Now what is the position. Did you have a check up. If you are normal now you need not hurry to tell them. But you should tell them the fact but after some years. It is better you consult some Physco oncologist and let him talk to the children so that they do not get frightened unnecessarily. |
