My jaw hurts!?

Issue
right at the joint on my left side. it started popping a little while after i got the rubberbands on my braces but now i don't have braces anymore and i only wear a retainer at night. the other day it popped so loud my bro sitting across the room heard it and since then it gets sore everytime i eat. does anyone know what's wrong??

Best Tip
If you've had the popping for over 6 months, it may not be possible to get it to go away completely, but conservative treatment may be able to eliminate any pain that you experience. By "conservative," I mean simple bite adjustment, an appliance (like a night guard or other), medication, physical therapy, or some combination of all four.

Anything that alters the position of the teeth and the way that the teeth come together, including both Invisalign and conventional braces, can affect your TMJ. If treatment is done without regard to proper occlusion (which sounds moronic, but it happens when esthetics is the major concern), it can lead to TMJ problems. If you have a bite problem that is causing TMJ problems and the dentist takes this into consideration, you may be able to get some improvement of the situation. In my experience, virtually ALL patients need some amount of "bite adjustment" by the dentist (me) to be sure that their final result does not cause TMJ problems. Orthodontia generally is concerned with relatively gross degrees of movement and there is little control over the amazingly infinitesimal changes in cusp angulation that can lead to TMJ problems. "Care, skill and judgement" are required to really fine tune the final result.

It could be a condition called tmj I'm not really familiar with the specifics but it can be treated. your dentist could tell you more
oops....sorry i thought this was a question about fellatio
You got calcium deposits built up in your jaw. Its normal it happens to me all the time just keep cracking your jaw so you can break it up. If it is hurting you alot only do it from time to time. By the way your bone structure is always changing so having pain is common, in young kids/adults.

it might be tmj. I have it, its not as treatable as some may say. There are surgeries that you can have to prevent it from getting worse, but there are no cures for it. I've had mine for about 12 years and its only gotten worse, not that painful, but it gives me head and neck aches and sometimes ear pain. I would go to a a dental specialist, ask your ortho or dentist to give you a referal.
