I have tmj and I need 2 teeth removed....? |
Issue These aren't my wisdom teeth(already had that done), but I need my two lower on each side, very back taken out. I was wondering if its safe to have them both removed at the same time and how much pain from the tmj will I experience? Best Tip Unusual - does this mean you won't have any molars left in your bottom jaw? Is this being recommended by a specialist prosthodontist or a general dentist? What are these teeth going to be replaced with? Have you been offered more conservative treatment, like an occlusal splint? Think about seeking a 2nd opinion if you haven't got good answers to the above. Apart from the above, the answers to your questions are... Any extraction of lower teeth will put strain on the muscles and ligaments of the TMJ, and it will cause anyone some post-op pain. If you already have TMJ problems, then you will be more sore than healthy people. Ask to use a mouth prop to bite on - this will help take the force. Be prepared with ibuprofen afterwards, and a soft diet for a few days. Some people get relief from warm face packs. It's probably safer/better to have both done at the same time, because it is usually easier for the dentist to take out 2 from the same side at a time. Therefore it will be easier for you overall. And good luck. Others It will be hard to chew for a while until you get used to it. Also have you ever been tested for Trigeminal Neuralgia instead of TMJ?
