How do you remove a piece of dental floss caught & shredded between your teeth?

Best Tip
You need some good quality WAXED floss, or TAPE (slightly wider). Johnson & Johnson is my recommendation.
The real question is... why did it get caught and shredded? This could indicate either a cavity, or a filling with a rough edge that can catch plaque and lead to decay. If it happens occasionally on the same tooth/teeth, then it would be wise to have it checked out by a dentist.

Others
I would try a toothpick.
Use a new piece of floss.
with a fresh length of dental floss.....happens to me all the time.
Use more floss! ha, this time I would try a waxed floss. It won't shred. That is what I use and it never shreds on me and it is easier to get through your teeth but does just as good a job if not better!
I like the Satin Floss, works great!!!
Waxed floss will (hopefully) drag the fine shredded pieces out. You can even tie a single overhand knot in the floss and drag teh knoto back and forth under the stuck floss.

Not for the faint-hearted: Take a heavy round toothpick and jam it between the two offending teeth near the gums until it hurts. Make sure that the point of the toothpick is NOT jabbing down into your gums, but is pointing straight through the teeth the way the floss goes. This will actually move the teeth apart slightly. If it is not a tight fit, you may need to find something bigger than the toothpick. Just don't use an ice skate. Now try the waxed floss with or without the knot again.

If you don't have waxed floss, go ahead and use your unwaxed floss in conjunction with the toothpick-as-wedge method.
