Remedy for fixed brace (train-tracks) pain? |
Issue My little brother just had his fixed brace fitted today and he's really suffering from the aching and pain, anyone got any remedies to help ease the pain as painkillers aren't working. Best Tip give him 3 advils/ibuprofens/motrins (they're all the same drug) with a full cup of water. that will help a lot. he can take that 4 times a day, so breakfast, lunch, dinner, bedtime. it will really help, trust me. advil is a powerful anti-inflammatory drug, and the ligaments around the teeth are really inflammed right now from all the new forces being placed on them. don't waste your time with tylenol or aleve, they won't work nearly as well. vicodin, if the orthodontist prescribed that for whatever reason, will only help him cope with the discomfort, and lots of people don't even respond to its painkilling effects. also, have him eat/drink really cold things. cold things help cool down inflammed areas. i'm talking slurpees, ice cream, near-freezing soda, etc. hope that helps. Others Usually over the counter medications should be enough. Increase doseage safely if needed. There is no need to take prescription painkillers. Give it a few days the pain and discomfort will decrease. In the meantime try soft diets. Chewing sugarless gum or biting on rubber wafers will help with the pain. |
