i had a question about working as a DA?

Issue
i just got my RDA lisence and i am looking for a job however my problem is that i don't have experience if a find a job should i work as if i were a DA and have to make the amount a DA makes until i get better

Best Tip
I don't care so much if someone has an RDA as how well they work in my office. In my state, an RDA can barely do anything that is actually USEFUL in the practice that any other good dental assistant can also legally do. There are a couple of things that I can actually make use of, like taking impressions and removing sutures, but not much else that I can think of. I assume you have an x-ray license if you are an RDA.

Having the license to do certain things doesn't tell me that you can actually do them well and in a time-efficient manner. I had one RDA who took close to ten minutes to remove a single suture - every time. It should have taken ten seconds. It was agony for the patient and terrible for the office schedule, so I just didn't ask her to do it anymore. She just never got any better at it, even when I showed her how to do it the easy way.

The RDA tells me that you are dedicated to this as a career and I would expect you to stay on the job, as you already know what you are getting into. Start at the entry level salary and prove your worth to your doctor. The RDA lets you provide more value to the practice. If you are good at it, you will be welll-paid for it.

Others
I don't think you have a choice, hon. But these kinds of jobs seem to be on the demand. Hunt around a bit, you may be able to find a salary to your liking. Congrats on getting your RDA license. Good for you and way to go! Best wishes to you...
Everyone needs to start somewhere... perhaps you can find a dental office that will monetarily reward you as you meet certain milestones, however the most important thing is to find a job at a place you enjoy going to everyday...sometimes we are drawn to the wrong place by money and are miserable... remember you still have to drag your butt out of bed each day to go to work...so find a place you'll be happy! And the money will come...with time, and experience (believe me I know!)
RDA is just a title, it doesn't say that you are the best RDA out there. I work with many assistants that don't have their RDA and are the best at their job.
Every office is different, but most places base pay on the experience that they have.
I wish you the best.
