How long have your bridges lasted and how u maintain them? |
Issue How long have your bridges lasted and how u maintain them? Best Tip Bridges can last, virtually, forever, if you take care of them properly. Most people will have to have at least one extra fitting and maybe a replacement, in a realistic sense, but yes, they can last a lifetime. Ceramic and porcelien are the materials most commonly used, and are the closest man-made match to enamel. Even though partials and bridges are strong, you still need to brush 3 times a day, and steer clear of extremely hard foods. Chewing gum should be an occasional treat only. Last, but definitely not least, refrain from using your teeth, or any part of your mouth for that matter, as a can opener, bottle opener, paper shreader, etc. Good Luck! LilD Source(s): My dad has been a CDT making partials, bridges, and crowns for over 30 years. Others My first pair lasted 15 years. I had them relined about 3 times. I had a very good dentist that told me to keep coming back until they fit comfortably. He also suggested Not using the stuff to glue them in. He said it would cause my gums to shrink and make my dentures slip causing sores. I took his advice and they still fit good. I broke one of the teeth and it cost almost as much to fix as new ones, so am following the same advice with these and am well satisfied. I just brush them with toothpaste with regular toothbrush and soak them in efferdent while I take my shower and put them back in. Have never been sorry. Many people refer to removable partial dentures as "bridges" and they are completely different for what dentists call bridges, so I'm not sure which you are asking about. I've seen both kinds last upwards of 50 years, though, in some cases. I've seen literally hundreds of both kinds lasting 25-30 years without problems. |
