Part of my tooth filling chipped out when i was eating a toffee! Will they re-do the filling or just top it up? |
Issue I'm very scared of the dentist, and i havent been in a while. My whole filling hasnt come out, but i am left with a sharp piece of tooth / filling in my mouth. I'm not experiencing any nerve pain though. I'm really hoping my dentist wont need to remove the whole filling then re - do it, i'm hoping he can just top it up without needing to inject me!! What do you all think? Thanks in advance :-] Best Tip It really depends, it might just need to patched up, or the dentist might need to redo the whole thing. If the reason you are nervous is because of the injection, then try with out. If it becomes too sensitive then the dentist will need to numb you up. Ask him to put on some topical anaesthetic first. This is a gel that's put onto your gum to make the injection more bearable, it works really well. Good luck. Source(s): Im a dental nurse. Others They will just top it off if there is no problems like the cavity getting deeper. Either way you should get it looked at. Re-doing the whole filling isn't any worse than having the filling put in in the first place. Fillings evetually need to be replaced anyway. I had this happen before, they just topped it off. Okay...after an x-ray they will be able to tell for sure......but should you have to be numbed have then put you under the nitrous oxide ( laughing gas) you love it and you won't care what they have to do. If your looking for a good dentist call my office...562-430-2740 we deal with people like this all the time. We are on call 24 hours a day and open 7 days a week. Our offices are in Bellflower, Long Beach and Downey. We'll give you the exam and X-ray for free.....Good Luck...And remember with the gas you'll get the work done and have a blast It depends on how much of the filling came out. That happened to me some years ago, and the dentist had to drill out the old filling and redo it. Good luck! |
