How often do you have to go to the dentist?

Issue
I hate going to the dentist because they stick all of those instruments into my mouth, so I prefer to go as little as possible. I've never had any cavities though and I'm 24, and my teeth never hurt me. So how much do I need to go?

Best Tip
Every 6 months is standard care for Dental treatment. At that time you'll need a proper cleaning and x'rays taken. Insurance will pay, for this if you have it.

Most people dont realize Dental Caries, can develope beneath the gum tissue and also develope inside the tooth itself, which isnt visible to the eye. Hense why, proper check ups and x'rays are recommended every 6 months.

Instruments are needed to determine sometimes if you have a cavity or not. A mouth mirror is used as well as an instrument called an 'explorer' (a handle with a hook on the end). In some cases a shadow will appear on an x'ray, so the doctor has to check it with this instrument. If its sticky, its a cavity, if not it's good to go. Trust me, no unnecessary instruments are put in your mouth that arent needed to diagnose you. And yes, they can be irritating, but they are necesary. Dental visits can be painfree with a little patience. Source(s): Applied Science Degree in Dental Technology

It is said that a yearly exam is best for dental health.
I agree, but try to find a dentist who thinks like you do and who won't do a ton of needless xrays, ect.
YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO GO AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.
You really should go every six months for a checkup and cleaning. Some people have to go every 3 months depending on what health conditions they have.
ideally, you should go for a professional cleaning and checkup every six months. however, going yearly is sufficient. especially if you brush and floss as you should.
