Help with Shin Splits...? |
Issue I am completely dedicated to loosing 75 lbs and I have been walking 2 miles everyday slowly increasing my time, the problem, My left shin hurts so bad i'm limping the 2nd mile. I believe i'm suffering from shin splits so i'm wondering what are somethings I can do to help with the pain and continue with my walking... Thank You! Best Tip Several suggestions: Ibuprofen before your walk-bet a ace bandage and wrap your shin with it before your walk-check your shoes, if they're too old this could be the problem,. get some good padded tennis or walking shoes-try to not walk on the road, it's too hard, try to walk alongside the road on the dirt and grass. If none of these things work, you may need to take several days off and apply heat to it and rest it. Others You need to ice those shin splints for at least 15 minutes two to three times a day. You may need to get some better shoes too. I used to have this problem, but with the proper shoes and the ice, I was fine. Warm up thoroughly before starting out. Warm up your shins specifically, by standing with your heels at the edge of a step, or curb and pointing your toes down. Hold for a few seconds and repeat. Congratulations on your dedication!! You may want to make sure that you are stretching prior to and immediately after your walk. Stretching will help ease your pain as well as alternating ice/heat when you do get them. Best of luck to you! I feel for ya ! Cut back on your distance and start doing other cardio exercises to keep your stamina up. If the shin splits get to bad you can do yourself a permanent damage so be careful. USMC Vetran You really need to see a doctor before you continue this walking program. |
