Issue Does anyone know how to get rid of opossums. There are two living up on my roof in the bouganvilla and I want them out. Help. Best Tip Depends a lot on what your roof's made up and where you live. A .22 pistol or rifle with a shot shell would not damage any roof to a noticeable extent. It's a little small for a 1 shot kill on a possum, but a few stings might encourage them to go away. If you have access to a larger caliber weapon (short of a shotgun), a .32, .38, or 9mm shot shell will do the trick. I like the baseball bat idea. Take a power-full flashlight and go up at night. They'll probably play possum in reaction to the light (and some noise wouldn't hurt either). Pick one and really whack it good a repeatedly. They're tougher than you'd think and if you try to get both, they'll probably both escape. A pitchfork (not a digging fork) would work also. Doesn't hurt to leave the dead on up there a day or two until the other one is sure it's dead and leaves. I cant say another animal because oppossum are great fighters... well here in rural Pennsylvania we like to do a thing called "clubbing" where you find annoying little opposums and hit them with a ballbat over the head to get rid of them-----not for real of course but that is one idea for you. I have done that to a ground mole before though call the game commission they will come and set up traps for free call your local animal control and see if they have any ideas on how to get rid of them There are animal exterminators/removers who can handle this, for a fee. |
