Will Glucosamine and Condroitin improve rotator Cuff Problems? |
Issue I recently started a Jiu jitsu class and have come to realize that my shoulders are pretty shot from years of heavy bench pressing. Will this supplementation improve them? What other recomendations do you have to improve rotator cuff damage? Best Tip It will help, but wont get rid of the pain. I would use ice and heat, and dont use that arm . Rest it as much as possible. When I was in therapy after a car wreck I saw many ppl come and go with the rotator cuff problem. Its a hard one to get over. If it doesnt improve, id see your doc. Others From some who TAKES glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, I can assure you that they DO help, but they only will help certain types of injuries. What these supplements do is to promote the healing and restoration of cartilage. So in my case (I have chondromalacia, a form of osteoarthritis, simply put) they help noticable. My cartilage is essentially worn off the end of my femur bones, and these substances, which are chemically just polysaccharide chains (sugars, essentially), DO help with the regeneration of the cartilage. In YOUR particular case, they will help if you have damage to the cartilage in your shoulder. If the rotator cuff problem is due to tendon damage or dislocation, and the cartilage is not involved, you are probably wasting money. Check with your doctor/surgeon to see exactly what the damage is. You may be better off taking NSAIDs (like Celebrex, Motrin, Relefin, Naproxin) to help with inflammation. Also, physical therapy is highly beneficial for this type injury. experience, and 25+ years in medical field |
