Issue Please help if someone was abused over 40 years ago what could they do now to help cope with the trauma? Best Tip I would highly recommend finding a therapist who specializes in the treatment of trauma. When someone has experienced a lot of trauma, their central nervous system is constantly activated. It can be difficult to regulate emotions, and they may feel anxious and unsafe much of the time. There are various techniques that a trauma specialist can use to help discharge some of that stored traumatic energy (that lives in the body). Such techniques include EMDR http://www.emdr.com/q&a.htm and Somatic Experiencing http://www.traumahealing.com/registry.ht... Good luck. You deserve help and support. Others Still reportable and any therapy will still be helpful...... talk to experts, not complete strangers... find someone to talk to. See a threapist Go to a police station and pick up information on Victim Support. Try contacting them. ASK your GP. I knew someone who must have had a terrible time a long long time ago but some choose not to go through it all again via therapy, and face the pain, in order to sort it all out. If one does choose to go through it all again I think it is very important to if possible be close by to a friend for support throughout the ordeal of facing ones demons. Best to focus on the release and possible freedom from facing the trauma. What about trying yoga, trauma I understand is released through relaxation. A committed yoga discipline each day for a year could pay dividends. I have tried it for 7 months an hour a day and think I may be getting some benefits at last. |
