Can weight be a major factor in back problems?

Issue
Son-in law always has severe back aches and definetly is over weight . Love him dearly but I don't want to hurt his feelings.

Best Tip
Most definitely. Our spines can only handle so much weight, then symptoms such as pain start appearing. Low endurance. Not only pain in back, but just about all joints, knees, ankles. Your relative probably already knows this. But you could mail him information anonymously, to bring his attention to the possibility the pain could be from being overweight.

Yes it does... lil too much in the front throws off you stability and the muscles in you back have to make up for the extra 1 or 2 tires latched on the front.
my back hurt a lot when i was 20 lbs heavier than i am now. it doesn't hurt at all now. i am pretty sure it can be a factor.
yes, and knee problems too! tell him no more cookies at your house!!
its a proven fact that abs are what helps keep weight off your back. stronger abs less back pain. keeping weight down is essential to lowering back pain.
You better believe weight is a factor in back ache. I had a 44" waist as recently as January this year. Had terrible back aches. I've lost 6.5" and the back aches are a thing of the past. Having pants where the waist is too small can also contribute to back aches.

My advice is to tell him that losing the gut will not only relieve the back ache, but also allow him to lead a more active and longer life - too much fat around the waist cuts down on life expectancy - that is a known fact.

Hope this helps. I've been there - trust me it's better having a trimmer waistline.
