Have you ever heard of someone being addicted to vomiting for a sense of relief? |
Issue A friend of mine recently told me that he has a problem with vomiting. Not to lose weight but just because he said it gave him a sense of relief. He is very ashamed and tries not to do it but states that he may do it up to 3 or 4 times per day. Afterwards he feels horrible about himself. Have you ever heard of anything like this? Best Tip Actually with bulemia there is a feeling of guilt associated with eating, then the person vomits to not feel the guilt - and yes, feels relieved after vomiting. However, i do know of a person that is addicted to vomiting just for the sheer pleasure of it. It is harmful to their stomach, esophagus, enamel, etc.. But yes, i have heard of this before. Others It's called bulimia Yes relief of stress by vomiting is very common condition. He should not feel horrible about it. THIS IS NOT BULEMIA bulemia If he does end up doing it to lose weight, or if that is why he started doing it, it would be known as Bulemia. But seeing as he is doing it just to make himself feel better, I think that he needs to talk to his parents-calmly regardless of what they say or how-and talk to his doctor. If he keeps doing this his body will reject any food and his digestive system will shut down. That is what happened to a friend of MINE, and that is what happens to people who do this whether they are trying to lose weight or not. If his digestive system shuts down there is no cure and he will have to have a tube PERMANENTLY inserted into his stomach. He will not be able to eat ever agin because his body will reject it and he will vomit it up. The only way to eat in that condition is to insert liquid foods through a feeding tube and then drain them into a bag from your stomach after your body has soaked up the nutrients. It is a horrible way to live. Please get him some sort of help before this happens. Friends, and family have had this problem and ended up in bad situations, and with bad health problems. It is not a good ting to have happen. Yes, that's common. People develop this eating disorder, and the body gets used to vomiting after eating. It is very bad, because it is horrible for the body. It actually changes body and brain chemistry, damages organs, etc. After a while, these people don't even have to induce vomiting. Their bodies are so used to it, that they will automatically throw up after eating. Very sad. I hope your friend gets help - he needs psychiatric as well as physical help. Love Jack |
