which muscles do pushups work?

Issue
many websites, books etc... have different 'opinions' on which muscles pushups actually work out, to my understanding it's pretty much just Triceps, Shoulders and Chest, but some websites say there are more.... thanks for the answers.

Best Tip
i am like an expert in push ups,i am doing push ups since i was a little kid,i am now 20 years and i do 75 to 120 or 150 push ups at maximum when i am at full energy,i did not reach this level by a short time period it was a result of years to dedication in sport,i tell u from my experience that push ups if done correctly can train basically the following muscles:the triceps,shoulders,chest,trapez... muscle between ur shoulder and ur neck),fingers and wrist.also the push ups exercise can train other muscles but in lesser amount it means like a poor train to them but still have an effect on them and they are the following muscles:abdamon(abs),upper leg(above knees below weist),back muscle, butt muscle, fingers of ur legs also becomes stronger.push up exercise may be hard for beginners but if u start with number between 5 to 10 each day and increase that number little by little each day,u will end up after a few period of time with a body to die for,and a physical power u have only dreamed to have in ur fantasies.good luck to u.

Others
abit of chest but should be the triceps
If you are doing pus-ups for exercises there are a variety of muscles you can work.
Fingers in pointing at each other: Outer muscles, deltoids and latts
On fists: Forearms and "punching" muscles
Hands - Wrists together etc and so on. Try different positions and you will work several of the "top half" muscles.
They also help stomach and consequently back.
My daughter is trying them out and says shoulders, triceps, abdominals and chest. Hope this helps......... (it helped with her exercises for today lol)
To elaborate on Kev, push ups are more complex than primary muscles, they can - if varied angles on arms to torso include muscles like quads and calfs beneffiting greatly. Look up web for push up sites.

here's one to start: http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/pus...
pushups work your pecs, your leg muscles, but mostly they stregnthen your arms and thier muscles.
Depends on how you do your push-ups. Diffrent hand placement and angle make a diffrance. But standerd push-ups work a lot of upper body muscles, some more than others, again, depending on how you do them. Figure push-ups work most upper body to a certain degree.
