What is the proper way to breathe during exercise?

Usually when i run or something I feel a pain in my gut and I think it's because I breathe improperly.

hhmm, you didnt really made a specific detailed question, you said run or something, but i am guessing this happens when you RUN, (pain in your gut)

that pain is what we call a stitch, its not due to improper breathing but more to lack of conditioning and training, when you have that feeling when you are running, try to slow down and lean foward from the waist up. use two finger and place it on the pain and gently pushing in.

Inhale every 3 steps and exhale after 3 steps. breathe in to your gut not to your chest. try it out as you got nothing to lose, cheers

I believe you should breathe in through your nose and out of your mouth, I always breathe in when I do a rep then out, Hopefully I am doing it right
first learn how to breath when you are not exercising. then it will be easy for you to breath regularly when you are exercising. this link will help you to relax and organize your breath.

then it will be easy to continue , but it will need a lot of practice maybe everyday for some time. i tried it myself and it worked. i breath perfectly now even when i am doing a great effort. i became welltrained.
Inhale through your nose, so pollutants get trapped in your nose hairs...that's what they are for...and exhale through your mouth. Also, when you inhale, your stomach should go out a little and go back in when you inhale. This is called belly breathing.

If your are lifting weights, breath in on the easy part and exhale on the exertion.
