Needle phobic!! Help!?

Issue
I'm 15 and I am extremely afraid of injections and shots/needles My doctor is not really aware of this yet since i switched doctors. Tomorrow, I have to get some kind of booster shot. This is going to be an issue already because I expierence anxiety attacks. My last shot a few years ago, i ran around the exam room and hid under the table screaming and crying until people had to hold me down. I want to avoid that situation if possible, but I know it's impossible from screaming and crying and my heart racing and me going all fidgety. Also, I don't think my doctor has any numbing medications to apply so I'm at a loss for solutions! Please help!!!

Best Tip
try to tell yourself that freaking out will only make it worse, so just relax and get the shot, don't watch while they do it. And relax the part of your body that it's happening to (ex. leg, put your weight on the other leg and let the one getting the shot hang loose) this will prevent soreness then next day. Just think of if as, shots are not there to hurt use, they're made to prevent and cure sickness. Just relax, you'll be ok. And don't embarrass yourself, that could be worse than freaking out over a shot, good luck

Well, remember that it's only a needle. It'll hurt for a secound. A secound. When you recieve the shot, try picturing being some where else, or think about something else.
just gotta go and be like IM 15 AND IM GOAN DO IT. and when its time think of other things. and ulll be fine.
Call your doctors office and let them know all of the information you just told us. In many cases doctors and their staff will make arrangements to have the staffing available to help calm you before you go in to get your shots. They may also have information for you to help with your anxiety.
i have a phobia for needles as well. you have to tell your doctor this. tell her that you cant help it but when they try to give you the shot you will struggle cry scream, and possibly get violent. then ask the doctor if there is some sort of seditive(like laughing gas) you can be given. thats what i have to do. the only way i can get a shot without flipping out is if i dont really know what is going on. you may also want to look into a medication for your anxiety. i honestly have a phobia but i think your problem may just be anxiety. i think maybe if you took something like zanax you wouldnt panic in these sorts of situations. i know my mom has to take a zanax before she gets on an airplane or else she will have an anxiety attack(panic attack)
Unfortunately, it is something you are going to have to get over. Think of the consequence of not getting your booster; you can get an easy but uncomfortable 30 second shot or possibly be susceptible to say....Hepatitis B. The answer seems logical. Also, all doctors office have topical anesthetics. Have your doctor numb the area with some topical lidocaine 5% first and you won't feel a thing. All will be well so calm down you are really making things much worse. Best of Luck!!

PS> I also have been extensively diagnosed with Panic Disorder and have to take medications for it daily. If you have any questions about your anxiety I would be happy to offer my insights, because I know how hard it is to struggle with such an immense disease that no one can see.
