Issue i have used it for 2 weeks can you get addicted to it?? Best Tip Lexapro is very well tolerated in most people. It may work for you and trying it is a good idea. Do not stop it cold turkey no matter what. Most drugs in the same category can have odd and sometimes even dangerous effects if stopped abruptly, so discuss this with your Dr. if you are thinking of this. You will not become addicted but you may really like feeling like your old self as a result of taking the drug. Sometimes, people feel so good that they think they should just stop since they are now "better". While this may or may not be the case, it should always be discussed and guided by a professional. Again, it is fine to stop WITH guidance and weaning, it is not an addictive drug. No antidepressant should be stopped suddenly. Always wean yourself off. Addiction is defined technically as needing higher and higher doses of a substance for it to bring about the same effect. As such, Lexapro is not addictive. You need to find your therapeutic level and you will stay on it for a very long time. If you're thinking that because when you stop it, you'll get depressed again, that does not make it addictive. You need the help of the anti-depressant on a regular basis, if you have clinical depression, because without it, your serotonin level is too low in your brain. Depression is not like a bacteria you treat over ten days. As long as you're likely to be depressed, you need the Lexapro. And it is not stopping the Lexapro that will make you depressed because you stopped. It would be your untreated condition resurfacing. |
