How do I get rid of my fear of the Cockroachs down here? |
Issue I live in Western Texas... There well what I see as huge Cockroaches that I'm too scared to even kill with the bug spray... I have to run and get the girls next door to sweep it out... I keep my apt. imaculate but when it gets to dry in this deserty area they come out the drains to find water... I really hate them and with in the next 6 months or so my husband isn't going to be around for a while so I want to get to a point that I'm okay to get close enough to them that I can kill them.... Do I sound crazy... Best Tip You think those are big? Try A louisiana cockroach. They can be more than 2 inches long, and the more advanced generations of them can fly. You haven't seen nothin' until you've witnessed a hoarde of flying b-52 bomber roaches flying straight for your house in old metairie or barataria. That said my wife usually does most of the killing. I will only if I have to. I can't stand roaches. I can handle the snakes, spiders, rodents, etc. But I can't handle roaches. Yuck. hehe. I lived in El Paso when I was a kid for a couple of years, when we first moved there our Dog was sick almost constantly. We finally figured out why when I turned on the porch light one night to watch him go to the bathroom. The back yard moved with roaches, and good 'ole Sam thought they were fun to eat. (sigh) Source(s): Side Note: Boric Acid works, use it, liberally. It's the only thing that kills the big ones reliably. Unless you want to use half a can of raid on a single bomber roach. hehe. It doesn't stop them from getting in, but when you do come across one in your house, it'll usually be dead or dying. And at that point you can just use the broom on it. (If you have pets use the Boric Acid on the outside of the home around window sills, porches, sliding glass doors, doorwars. Etc. You'll just have to reapply it every couple of months. My in-laws built their house from the ground up and literally infused the boric acid in between every single wall, they used a ton of it. ) P.S. Roaches do bite. THey can carry up to 47 diseases, and they get harder to kill every year. Try waking up in bed and feeling a sharp bite on your back, you swipe at it, and come away with a giant roach leg and nothing else. See if you get back to sleep that night. http://www.bio.umass.edu/biology/kunkel/... If you read The Last Human by Doug Naylor, it might help some. It's a rather funny book and is a spin off from the Red Dwarf books (which were a spin off of the British sitcom back in the late 70's early 80's.) It deals with the evolution of roaches in a funny sort of way. hehehe. http://www.amazon.com/last-human-red-dwa... Others No, I go through the same thing. I moved from Alberta Canada (there are no roaches here) to Louisiana. My husband gets the extermintaor in once a year, and that helps. But I hate going outside at night, they are everywhere. I have cans of Raid everywhere to be prepared :) hey, im a male (also in texas) and im scared of roaches on time i even got robbed by a group of em Move north.... or `at least get out of that area Tell yourself this: They don't bite. (Really.) They're more scared of me than I am of them. (Wave your arms and yell, and they'll run away.) I'm bigger than they are. (They may be big, but people are way bigger.) They can't hurt me. At some point, no matter how disgusting it is, you're going to have to look one in the eye and kill it. After you've done that a couple of times, they won't scare you so much. LMAO girl i know just how you feel...i moved to SW Arkansas from Cali and totally lost it the first time i saw one...lol I still do, but @ least I don't run out of the house screaming anymore....you will, in time get used to them, but there will always be a fear....they have nothing to do with how clean you keep your home....out here they call them waterbugs ( i call them giant roaches) and there are a few species that fly so be careful and be aware....but as winter is coming they will be lessening so you won't have to worry as much....but get some boric acid ( you can buy it @ walmart) and put a dusting of it under your sinks and you can mix some in water and pour down your drains on a regular basis to try and keep them away...good luck!! **bless that man that answered before me....that's such a guy answer.....as many of them as i've killed it still takes me about 20 min and a whole lotta false starts...my conscious mind knows he is right but the me that's running out of the house screaming still battles for control...lol** |
