How can I help a person who tells me (while drunk) he wants to end his life?

Issue
I really want to help my friend, who text messaged me the other night, and says he wants to chat. Asked me to call him. He's too sad over loosing his mom last year, and he's been drinking vodka that night. How true is one's words when they are drunk? He seemed normal the next day. But I'm still worried.

What can I do to change his thinking and do anything stupid?

Best Tip
Hey his MOM is a BIG deal, alot of people including myself wouldnt know how to deal with themselves drunk or sober when they had lost a parent. You do need to talk with him, be around him, or friends around him always, this could get really serious. Some people can handle losing parents better than others, but he sounds like he needs a hug or a shoulder to cry on. She may have been his best friend. She cared for him her whole life hopefully, this is his mom we're talkin about! Find out what he truely misses about the time they spent together and work from there. Best wishes

get a counsler to talk to him. he needs help
take him to the cops
being drunk doesn't stop you from telling the truth.
I've said that when I was drunk...I was really depressed but I would never have actually done it. that's crazy. Just talk to him about it. I'm sure he was just sad. Give him a hug! Be a friend!
Talk to him about it and comfort him..I have been the same way. I have thought about ending my life. Talk to him and find out his true feelings and explain to him that nothing is worth ending your life.
