Does smoking cigarettes make you depressed? |
Issue Someone I know just started smoking about a pack a week about a month ago. She seems very depressed now. Best Tip Smoking by itself doesn't cause depression. It's more likely your friend has started smoking because they ARE depressed and think it will help them deal with whatever is going on in their life. It won't, of course, but it could be sign that something is wrong. If they are a teenager, visit this site to learn about depression in young people and how you can help: http://www.yellowribbon.org/ Other sites with excellent information & resources for anyone going through this or wanting to help someone : http://www.beyondblue.org.au http://www.depression.com http://www.psychologyinfo.com/depression... http://www.depressionalliance.org/... Your friend is very lucky to have someone like you looking out for them. Good luck. Others YES NEVER SMOKE, If she keeps doing this say bye-bye. It will make you depressed! It is poison! I smoked for 30 years and I am finally rid of them! Tell your friend to pack it in! She probably wants to quit but can't or doesn't know how. Smoking is just slow and painful suicide! That would make me depressed. Although smoking is bad for your health, I don't think it is causing her to be depressed. Her depression is stemming from something else. Maybe whatever is depressing her is the reason she started smoking. Actually cigarettes help to calm your nerves, but that is not good enough reason to start smoking...I quit a little over a year ago after smoking for over 40 years....Tell her to quit before it is too late....It WILL kill you.... |
