Have you ever heard of a lobotomy reversal? Is it possible? |
Issue It could also be chemical lobotomy reversal. Please, no jokes...... Best Tip Lobotomy involves cutting nerves. You can't reverse that. I don't know what a "chemical lobotomy" is, but I would assume that discontinuation of medication should result in a reversal of effects. Source(s): I'm a doctor. Others No, and No No, I don't think it can be reversed. Do they still even do those? A surgical lobotomy can NOT be reversed, since it was done by cutting one or more nerve tracts. As to a Chemical Lobotomy, from Tips.com: "The first antipsychotic was chlorpromazine, which was developed as a surgical anesthetic. It was first used on psychiatric patients in the belief that it would have a calming effect. However, the drug soon appeared to reduce psychosis beyond this calming effect, and now some believe that it causes a reduction of psychosis unrelated to the sedating effect of the medication. It was introduced for the treatment of psychosis during the period when lobotomy was a common treatment and was hailed as a "cure" for schizophrenia. It was then touted to provide a "chemical lobotomy," causing similar neurological effects without requiring surgery." Obviously, once the chemical (medicine) is stopped, the effects will reverse themselves. However, since the medicine was/is being used to help "cure" a serious psychiatric condition, this may not be a GOOD thing! Hopefully, in this case, other, less severe drugs could be administered to help cure the situation. Hope this explains what you need to know. http://www.answers.com/topic/lobotomy... http://www.answers.com/topic/antipsychot... Lobotomies are no longer performed. They are permanent ! Way back when they would punch a hole in the skull of the victim and swish around a rod, hence permanent. |
