Can steroids taken in a medication, alter your moods....? |
Issue i know that when meatheads use recreational steroids it makes them crazy...does that apply with steroids prescribed by a Dr.?? Best Tip I am an RN and I work in the ER, so I deal with alot of medications and YES, they do effect MANY parts of the body. Though understand there is a difference between anabolic steriods and corticosteriod. A prescribed corticosteriod is usually synthetic and usually is used as an anti-inflammatory (say for someone who has a respiratory inflammation, or even for rashes and reaction. Anabolic steriods are used as a growth factor for muscles. No matter which one you take, steriods could effect things like appetite, moods, blood pressure, headaches, muscle fatigue, retention of salts and fluids, bruising, and more. Specifically for you question, steriods have the ability to create psychiatric disturbances which include depression, euphoria, insomnia, mood swings, personality changes, and even psychotic behavior. I hope this helps Others yes they do nurse It depends on the type of steroid. Prednizone I know does not alter mood at all. Recreational steroids used by athletes are a lot different than those prescribed by your doctor. My daughter has been on them for 11 years, and YES, they most certainly do. Definitely they do. That's the reason why one should take steroids under medical supervision, and that too only in prescribed dosage. |
