Has anyone suffered from P.T.S.D? What caused it?

Issue
If so, how did you get through it? How long did it take?

Best Tip
I have had PTSD much of my adult life. It is caused by ether seeing or being involved in a Traumata event.
The causes vary from sexual assault to witnessing mass murder or in my case being involved in the military and the Vietnam War.

No mater what the doctors tell you there is no medical cure, they will give you diagnoses, and meds to treat their diagnoses and most only cover up the problem by making you sleep your life away. Remember Doctors in essence work for the drug companies and you are an end user of whatever drug they have been paid to go to the seminar of last.
Truth is that you have to learn about PTSD, and then pick a doctor that is able to help you cope with it. Doctors give drugs only. Physiologist talk about the problem, unfortunately you may need both.
However, the first thing you need is a diagnosis of PTSD. Not six different diagnoses but one-soled diagnoses and the best way is to take the Global Assessments of Function test. A score of 41 to 50 will establish your case for disability and in so doing allow you to get the treatment you will need for the rest of your life. Social Security Disability is available for those that need income while being treated. It is not enough to live on, but in most cases of PTSD, you are not working anyway and you are you cannot seem to hold down a full time job anyway.
If it is military related then with a diagnoses of PTSD and a proven stressor, from combat, you can get compensation from the Veterans Affairs.

Others
Yes, I have and still do suffer from it. Some was caused by ho wmy father treated me when I was younger, but most was caused by abused from my ex.

I'm getting through it with therapy and its been a couple year battle. For some it never goes away.
I suffer from BP1, PTSD, and SID. I've been in the mental health community for many years
I saw my drunk brother in law almost drown my neice if I didnt find him in the pool. He was trashed and I snapped all of a sudden my now sober alcoholic father and my now sober drugged out hubby just flooded my mind. I cought myself takin an hour to make my kids a sandwich and cryed all the time. I went a little crazy for a while but the dr put me on prozac and I saw a dr and talked about it it helped but I still think about it all the time/
My son has it. He is still going through it. Keep trying different meds. He has had it for the last three years. Sometimes I think he'll never get through it.
Hi, I will take a few paragraphs and share what happens to me and when and how if these can be answered.

I am 40, and for the past seven years, since 33 have really put a slow down to a very fast pace life and by incorporating spirituality and sobriety and meditation and some 12 steps, I took a long hard look at passages in my life that moved so quickly, that people and loved ones got steam-rolled over.

Most upsetting was to realize that I was capable of doing some cold, cruel rotten things but without even attaching it to me or feeling the consequences. And somehow, in the crazy 80's and 90's things were acceptable that are not absolutely now....truth be told these were some completely anti-social relations with people.

So to wake up and find out i live with this beast, has done a number on me and I have PTSD when I wake each day about socializing with people, making amends, never forgetting now that I remember misdeeds, and so far I have not gotten back into the groove.

Through out a day, I experience shock and fright passing lights, doorways, and it is all related to guilt and shame.

But I talk about it everyday, get therapy and channel-surf it into my life and art now, so I 'never forget' as my dad said to me once.
Yes I have but I'm better after yrs of medication, my P.S.T.D was caused by my husband's manic episode's ( he is bi-polar) he was never cruel to me or the kids, but man could he spend money i almost lost our home due to the debt he put us in. I didn't know i had P.S.T.D until i spoke to my husbands doctor , he put me on Prozac and I went to group therapy, it took me 3yrs to feel almost normal, good positive attitude and knowing that there is help out there is the key.
