Help: I occasionally wake up in an extremely frightened state..?

Issue
I woke up in the middle of the night and it was like a nightmare while I was awake (I was frightened of inantimate objects in my room, and I felt feally weird), I was yelling because I was so scared and ran to my dad's room. What is the cause of this? Is this a night terror, I did not have any dreams prior to this and It wore off after a few minutes, my mind was in a scared state (sober)

Best Tip
I would seek the help of a mental health professional. My son is giong through the same thing after having gone through a traumatic experience he was diagnosed with night terrors he would remember only a small part or one thing from his nightmares. He also has these during the day about 2hrs. into nap time. He is now on medication and these night terrors are a little less freq. now only 3/4 times a week instead of 6/7 times. there can be other contibuting factors we were told by his Dr.'s like migraines or seizures so I would really seek Medical Attention right away! Just know your not alone! Good luck & Good night! Source(s): My son having been diagnosed with the same symptoms and doing research after giong to the therapist being referred by our medical DR.www.webmd.com & www.jama.com

Others
Anxiety attacks, not uncommon.
Sounds familiar. Had the same sort of thing at around 12. Night terrors are a catch-all, but perhaps observation of the situation you "wake up" in will help.

Do you "wake up" and the room seems to be Laid out differently, ( window on the wrong wall, etc).

Do you feel paralyzed, unable to move, cannot hear initial screaming, sweating ?

I used to get to a point that it would take me 3 attempts to really wake up and afterwards would feel like I had run a marathon !

You will , hopefully and eventually, grow out of it. Should only last a couple of months. There may be an underlying causation, a repressed memory or a traumatic experience, or perhaps a situation that you cannot deal with normally, and this is appearing in your subconscious while asleep.

If in doubt, seek professional help, they can guide you in the right direction and perhaps alleviate the anxiousness.

You could try hypnosis with a qualified professional, may root out the underlying cause.

Best of luck and keep a positive attitude, and try not to worry too much about it. Hopefully a temporary thing.
