It was designed by Teesdale et al for neurosurgical patients as a through assessment of concious level. In medical situations such in depth review is not required and in most circumstances AVPU (alert. verbal, pain unresponsive) is much quicker and equally discrimanatory Others Yes - it is a good way to measure the conscious level of any patient. yes as it measures the patients level of consciousness It measures the patients levels of consciousness GCS is valid in all patients irrespective of the cause of loss of consciousness. The proof for this is the fact that it has been adopted by the European Resuscitation Council in its Advance Life Support Guidelines and by the American College of Surgeons in the Advanced Trauma Life Support Guidelines. |
