Issue i mean if you really think about it.im not trying to offend anyone.im just curious as to why a disease, and being an alcoholic is the same.serious answers only Best Tip But It Doesn't Act Like a Disease! One of the difficulties in recognizing alcoholism as a disease is it just plain doesn't seem like one. It doesn't look, sound, smell and it certainly doesn't act like a disease. To make matters worse, generally it denies it exists and resists treatment. Alcoholism has been recognized for many years by professional medical organizations as a primary, chronic, progressive and sometimes fatal disease. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence offers a detailed and complete definition of alcoholism, but probably the most simple way to describe it is "a mental obsession that causes a physical compulsion to drink." http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/frie... I People who say it is not a disease, are in the bleachers...NOT on the playing field. Others it is a 'self diagnosed' desease. Alcoholism is not a disease, it is a behavior. Regardless of genetics, behavior can be controlled and alcoholism is self induced. . It's a psychological dis-ease. Not a fault of character. Scientists have proven there's a gene for alcoholism. It is more of a "disorder" rather than a disease. Disease is more of a tissue infection, cancer, etc. Disorder takes into account something of a mental or psychological complication, in addition to the physical dependency or craving. Because it is a way of deflecting responsibility. A disease is something that 'happens' to you. In this way, you are not at fault. You are a victim. because it never leaves you it's a daily fight to stay away from it if you are addicted to it and it slowly kills you like any-other disease,I'm married to one! |
