O positive is most common but not the universal blood. Antigens on the blood cells are what determines the type and Rh of the blood. O blood has no A or B antigen, and Rh neg has no Rh antigen. The lack of antigens in O neg blood means it can be given to anyone without a reaction. Nursing student in Physiology class......just did this one. o positive is the universal donor ab is universal receiver O positive O positive can only give to other blood types that have a positive Rh factor. However, O negative can give to any blood type with or without a positive Rh factor. |
