Is proonged cough(more than 2 weeks) harmful? Is it a symptom of any other codition?

Issue
i have been treating my cough with medication but it ceases to cure.

Best Tip
The reasons for prolonged cough can be benign - such as Post-Nasal Drip (if you have a history of seasonal allergies, sinusitis, if you feel a tickle constantly at the back of your throad) or medicines called Ace-inhibitors (for blood pressure - examples Altace, Lisinopril, Enalapril, Ramipril). It can also be caused by poorly-controlled asthma. A variant of asthma presents itself with coughing rather than with wheezing and shortness of breath.

Or the cough can be a harbinger for something serious - such as cancer of the lungs or upper airways, or throat (associated with prolonged hoarseness, weight loss, history of smoking), or something infection like Tuberculosis.

The cough can be A sign of a chronic illness like chronic bronchtis.

There can also be heart-related reasons for the cough. If someone has congested heart failure, he or she can have chronic cough from collection of fluid in the lung.

In any case, you should get an x-ray to start elucidating the cause of the problem.
