Issue I am looking for short term health insurance in Massachusetts and cannot find any plans. Do they exist? Best Tip Short-term plans do exist in Massachusetts, but they generally are hard to locate on the Internet. That has to do with short-term plans in general rather than Massachusetts. Be careful when buying these plans, though, because they are different from normal health plans. Short-term plans don鈥檛 offer the same range of benefits as longer-term insurance, but many people get these kinds of plans when they鈥檙e in-between jobs or recently graduated from high school or college. Typically, they last from a month to six months, although you can find short-term policies that last for a year. Short-term plans usually help pay for: 鈥ospital room and board 鈥mbulatory services 鈥ntensive Care 鈥ab Exams 鈥-rays 鈥rescription medications Short-term plans also generally give you a lot of freedom on the doctors or hospitals you can go to. They usually don鈥檛 cover routine or preventive exams, dental care, pregnancy, elective surgery, or pregnancy. If you鈥檙e traveling outside of the US, you can get travel insurance, which includes health insurance options and also expires after a period. Depending on your age, you might be able to get coverage under your parent鈥檚 plan. Many states have extended the age that children can be included under their parent鈥檚 insurance policy. Try finding information on North Carolina or Nevada short-term plans, for example. I鈥檝e included a link to the Massachusetts Insurance Department and to MostChoice.com. The state office has information on all companies that provide health insurance in Massachusetts. You can email them to ask them specifically about short-term plans or call the insurance companies directly/visit their Web sites. MostChoice.com will allow you to view and compare rates from multiple MA plans. It鈥檚 free and you鈥檒l also be able to talk with more than one state-licensed health insurance agent. There鈥檚 no cost or obligation to buy anything from anyone. Just tell the agents what you need and wait until one of them comes back with a short-term plan that fits your budget and your insurance coverage needs.
